Italy’s “Trans-Siberian” weekend trains return

Following the success of the Snow Trains promoted by Fondazione FS that, between February and March, connected Rome with Sulmona and Roccaraso, there will be new departures of historical trains on the Sulmona-Isernia railway reproducing the weekend formula as of September.

The next appointment on the calendar is set for Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 November. Starting from Sulmona and passing the Apennines, some of the most evocative places in the Alto Molise territory will be reached, through to the capitals of Isernia and Campobasso.

An intense weekend that will offer the opportunity to participate in many events pertaining to the “Prossima Fermata, Molise!” (Next Stop, Molise!) initiative, which foresees a contribution from the Molise region in the context of the “Turismo è Cultura” (Tourism is Culture), in which the association LeRotaie affiliated with Fondazione FS is also participating.

In addition to the journey aboard vintage wagons along the Trans-Siberian panorama, there are itinerant tastings of typical products from local farms and dairies, whilst in Isernia—where there will be an overnight stay—travellers can take part in celebrations for the anniversary of the reopening of the line and in cultural and musical exhibitions. The following day, the historic train will continue its journey towards Campobasso, with a visit to the historic centre, before returning to Sulmona in the late afternoon.
