Through its engineering company Italferr, FS Italiane has been awarded supervision of the works on Metro Line 1 in Bogotá, Colombia, in consortium with other international companies, with a value totalling over 50 million euro.
The tender, run by the World Bank on behalf of Empresa Metro de Bogotá, is part of the main project “PLMB - Primera Línea del Metro de Bogotá - Tramo 1” that foresees the realisation of 24 kilometres of metro line (including 22 on a viaduct), including 16 stations, as well as deposits for rolling stock in the area of the Colombian capital (with a total investment of 4.3 billion US dollars). It is the flagship infrastructure project for the Colombian market and currently one of the most international initiatives in the field of mass public transport.
The award of the tender came with the "Consorcio Supervisor PLMB", of which Italferr is part with a 25% stake. The other companies in the consortium are AYESA (a Spanish company and leader of the participating group with AyesaMexico S.A DE C.V. and Ayesa Ingeniería y Arquitectura S.A.U. Sucursal Colombia, with a 40% share), MM S.p.A. (an Italian company with a 15% stake) and MAB Ingeniería de Valor S.A. (a Colombian company with a 20% quota).
In addition to supervising the works, the consortium will also verify fulfilment of the contractual obligations regarding the investment of the main project.
Finally, Italferr is also establishing its own branch in Bogotá.
