Gianfranco Battisti, CEO and General Director of Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane, was named as “European Ambassador for Diversity”, with the role of promoting a strategy of inclusion in the transport sector.
To confer the appointment was Violeta Bulc, European Commissioner for Transport.
The award demonstrates Commissioner Bulc’s appreciation for the FS Italiane Group’s commitment and contribution in support of diversity and inclusion in the transport sector, as part of the Platform for Change established by the European Commission in 2017.
«Commissioner Violetta Bulc’s recognition demonstrates the commitment of the FS Italiane Group to promoting inclusiveness and diversity, enhancing professional talents and implementing best practices in industrial processes”, underlined Gianfranco Battisti, FS Italiane’s Chief Executive Officer and General Director. “These values will allow us to be a leader in the European markets and, contemporaneously, to be competitive in global markets, seizing opportunities for growth and development thanks to the contribution of the people who form part of the FS Italiane Group. It is a source of pride to note that the European Commission recognises how the Group has effectively unified sustainable development with the creation and maintenance of inclusive workplaces that respect diversity in the transport sector».
The European Commission’s Platform for Change - Women in Transport aims to strengthen female employment (currently equalling 22% within the sector) and equal opportunities for men and women working in transport.
