Italferr, the engineering and design company of the FS Italiane Group, has been entrusted with the development of the executive design for the reconstruction of the “Polcevera” viaduct in Genoa.
The FS Italiane Group company’s design will be based on the architectural concept developed by Studio Renzo Piano.
The engineering company shall commence work on the executive design of the new bridge immediately, in line with the schedule to achieve structural completion of the work by the end of 2019, as determined by the awarded companies, Salini Impregilo and Fincantieri, which have appointed Italferr as the designer in charge.
The award was attained via the Decree issued by Marco Bucci as the Extraordinary Commissioner for the reconstruction of Genoa’s “Polcevera” viaduct, following a market survey and subsequent negotiated procedure. The commissary structure positively evaluated the reconstruction proposal presented by Salini Impregilo and Fincantieri with the technical contribution of Italferr.

The reconstruction activities for the “Polcevera” viaduct follow those already completed and currently underway by Italferr all around the world. Highlights amongst these are the cable-stayed bridge over the River Po on the highspeed Milano-Bologna line and the metal bridge crossing the A14 motorway along the Bologna-Venezia line. Internationally, in India there is the 750-metre Anji Khad Bridge, the Žeželj Bridge over the Danube River in Serbia's Novi Sad, and the railway line bridge over the Euphrates river in Syria's Tabeje-al Bookamal.
