The new Treviglio-Brescia high speed/high capacity line is up and running and, from tomorrow 11th December, it will be open for business, connecting Brescia with Milan in just 36 minutes.
The Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Graziano Delrio, took part in the maiden voyage on board a Frecciarossa 1000, and was joined by senior management from the FS Italiane Group: the President, Gioia Ghezzi, and the CEO and Director General, Renato Mazzoncini.
The governor of Lombardy, Roberto Maroni, the mayor of Brescia, Emilio Del Bono, and senior management from the FS Italiane Group’s operating companies, Claudia Cattani (President of RFI), Maurizio Gentile (CEO of RFI), Barbara Morgante (CEO of Trenitalia) and Riccardo Maria Monti (President of Italferr) also travelled on board the train.
The Councillor for Infrastructure and Mobility of Lombardy, Alessandro Sorte, the mayor of Venice, Luigi Brugnaro, the President of Cepav Due, Franco Lombardi, and mayors from the Municipalities where the HS/HC line passes through were also on board.
The new Brescia-Milan HS/HC line is another milestone in the creation of the Milan-Venice HS/HC rail link, while also forming an integral part of the Mediterranean TEN-T Core Corridor which connects the Iberian Peninsula with the Ukrainian border and stretches from Turin to Trieste in Italy.
The total economic investment involved is approximately €2 billion.
