Expo: Elia “Brought 10 million visitors, a prototype to be used for the Jubilee”

Milano, 10 October 2015

The CEO of the FS Italiane Group, Michele Mario Elia, takes stock of the Milan exhibition from the stage of the Expo conference centre at the event “Expo After Expo”, confirming the 10 million passengers who travelled on board the Frecce to exhibition site.

When the debate moderator, Roberto Arditti, asked what had been the initial forecast, Elia replied that the Railways expected 30% of the passengers, roughly an estimated 20 million visitors during the six months of this Expo. He also added, this is proof that “we believed in the exposition, but then the numbers grew with time”.

Now we must make sure not to lose the successful momentum gained and stick to the pattern of the Expo, explained Elia.

We brought 10 million visitors to Milan during this period, contributing to the results of the Expo.
“I would like to repeat this pattern for the Jubilee in Rome, trying to get people to park their vehicles in the large car park on the outskirts of the city and transport them all to the city centre by train. The Jubilee is an important opportunity to re-test this machine, trying to persuade everyone to get on board the train”.

There will also be needed work done, he adds, for links to other places of pilgrimage “such as Assisi and Loreto”.
