WIM and school

Women in Motion promotes female presence in technical careers through meetings in secondary schools and universities. Indeed, since 2017, WIM has promoted guidance paths thanks to role models that visit schools throughout Italy every year to talk about FS technical trades and provide students with the necessary tools for making conscious choices and to best express their potential and talent. The campaign aims to increase the presence of women in the selection process and, within this perspective, across all levels of the organisation.

In viaggio con l'altra metà del cielo (Voyage with the other half of the sky) - 2018

In 2018, Women in Motion continued its journey with the addition of the school orientation project with the formulation In viaggio con l’altra metà del cielo (Voyage with the other half of the sky) by Bet She Can.

The Foundation is focused on girls aged eight to 12 years, helping them to acquire the tools to develop self-awareness and their potential to grow up free in their own choices.

Together, WIM and In viaggio con l’altra metà del cielo pave a path of school-work alternation that connects students at technical-professional institutes, girls in elementary school and staff in the technical fields of the FS Italiane Group. Secondary school students worked on a railway-themed project, involving girls on a journey into the world of technology, with the aim of overcoming gender stereotypes.

Girls in Motion - 2017

Twenty students travelling from Milan to Naples to discover and recount the technical and specialist culture for women: Girls in Motion is one of the WIM projects established in 2017 and realised thanks to the collaboration between FS Italiane, Acea, Aidda, Amarelli, Ania, Fondazione Marisa Bellisario, Enel, Eni, Poste Italiane, Rete Ferroviaria Italiana and Terna.

Selected from amongst some 1,500 secondary school students throughout Italy, the protagonists of Girls in Motion have distinguished themselves by their passion, curiosity and aptitude in technical disciplines. The tour set off from Milan on 25 April 2017 and ended in Naples on 29 April. One Frecciarossa 1000 has completed seven legs in the places symbolic of Italian technological excellence and engineering in the name of FS: maintenance facilities, operations rooms, workshops and worksites.
