The process to completely renew the regional fleet in Lazio is continuing. With the three new Rock trains that arrived over the past few weeks, as laid down in the Service Contract signed by Trenitalia (FS Italiane Group) and the Lazio Regional Government, the number of new trains operating in the region has risen to seven. The fleet will additionally gain a further 58 Rock trains, four 200km/h trains and three bi-modal trains, which will take the average age of trains to six years with a complete renewal of the rolling stock in Lazio - a sign of the huge investment made by Trenitalia in regional transport.
The Rock Train
The new trains, which have been designed with cutting-edge technology, and are eco-sustainable and spacious, mean that fuel consumption will fall by 30% compared with previous trains. Furthermore, they are 97% built from recyclable material. These new, two-floor trains can hold up to 1400 people, with over 700 seats in the longer configuration, and they can carry up to 18 bicycles. Additionally, the “Snack on Board” programme has also started in Lazio, with vending machines on some trains so that drinks and snacks will also be available on regional trains.
