More than 10% of seats on the regional trains of Trenitalia (FS Italiane Group), about 300 buses ready to supplement the regional offering, over 70 extraordinary assistance sites and spaces for people to be tested at no cost in the main stations.
Moreover, in the coming days the High Speed and the medium- and long-distance services will be increased to meet the expected rise in the transport demand.
These are the main actions of the FS Italiane Group undertaken at request of the Minister of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility, Enrico Giovannini, in view of the reopenings scheduled as of Monday, 26 April. All actions are aimed at increasing the safety of people travelling for work and study purposes. In addition, the activities of the itinerant cleaner travelling aboard the train during the entire journey will be enhanced.
The regional train offering counts 6,900 rides per day with some 2.1 million seats offered, already calculated in accordance with the current 50% capacity. The strengthening of Trenitalia’s offering has been defined together with the individual Regions, Clients of the service, and the Prefectures through an analysis of the movements of commuters also based on data from the last weeks and first months of the school year, such as September and October 2020.
Thanks to the agreement between the FS Italiane Group and the Italian Red Cross, gazebos are operating in Roma Termini and Milano Centrale stations to offer free testing to the population. By 10 May, gazebos are scheduled to be opened in the Genova, Torino, Bologna, Firenze, Venezia, Napoli, Bari, Reggio Calabria, Palermo and Cagliari stations.
The undertakings of the FS Italiane Group in preparing for the restart confirm the strong focus on protecting people’s health, as evidenced by the certifications received regarding the sanitisation procedures foreseen aboard the trains and in working spaces.
