Trenitalia: the second Rock train reaches Campania

A fully-restored TAF train was also delivered

Naples, 2 February 2021

Another Trenitalia Rock train today on the Campania region tracks, in line with the 37 new trains foreseen by the Service Contract.

Together with the new convoy, a fully-restored TAF (Treno Alta Frequentazione) was also delivered.

The brief presentation ceremony, which was held at the Napoli Centrale Maintenance Facility, was attended by the President of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca, and Trenitalia’s CEO, Luigi Corradi.

Representing the Campania Region was Luca Cascone, Chairman of the IV Commission for Transport along with Sabrina De Filippis as Director of the Regional Passenger Division, and Pietro Diamantini as the Campania and Molise Regional Director representing Trenitalia.

The new Rock trains not only offer more seats and greater comfort but also reduce consumption by 30% compared to prior locomotives and are even composed of 97% recyclable material. The availability of more seats is combined with the possibility of transporting up to 18 bicycles, yet another feature that renders these locomotives amongst the most environmentally-friendly means of mass transit.

More trains are on their way.

Thanks to the Service Contract signed with the Campania Region, 24 Jazz trains are already travelling the tracks of the regional network. In fact, in the FS Italiane Group's multi-annual investment programme, Trenitalia aims to renew the regional fleet that will come about in Campania with the arrival of 37 new trains – with a mix of Rock and multimodal – and the revamping of 30 TAF convoys.
