Rome, 19 June 2018
Organizational, managerial and managerial development of the Vietnam National Railway, the national railways, and future infrastructural and technological upgrading of railway lines and port areas in Vietnam.
These are the themes at the centre of today's meeting in Rome between Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane and the Vietnamese National Railway, whose delegation was led by General Manager Vu Ta Tung.
During the meeting the results of the Technical assistance study for organizational and managerial development of the Vietnamese National Railway, assigned to FS Italiane in November 2017, were presented.
The preparatory study comes ahead of the start of the technical assistance program which involves the presence of Italian railway experts at the Vietnamese National Railway and, at a later stage, specific interventions in the railway and port sector in Vietnam.
The FS Italiane Group is evaluating the technological and infrastructural upgrading of the Hanoi - Haiphong port line, which connects the capital Hanoi with Haiphong, the most industrial city and main port of the country. These interventions will also involve Italferr, the engineering company part of the FS Italiane Group, Italcertifer, the railway certification company, and other large Italian companies.
The technical assistance study is included in the framework of the cooperation, launched in 2007, between the FS Italiane Group and the Vietnamese National Railway, with the signing of an initial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Subsequently the collaboration was intensified with the signing of a second MoU in 2015 and, in 2017, the specialized technical study was commissioned.
The development plan of the Vietnamese railway system also includes the construction of a high-speed line that will cross the whole country from North to South. The improvement of regional connections with China and the area of Southeast Asia is also envisaged.
