The official beginning of cooperation between the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane and VNR - Vietnam Railways, the Vietnamese railway company.
The agreement was signed and sealed by the CEO of the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane, Michele Mario Elia, and the General Manager of Vietnamese railway system, Vú Tó Tùng.
The agreement provides for the development of cooperation between the two railway companies, especially with regard to providing consulting, training and technical assistance.
Further opportunities for the FS Italiane Group could emerge in Vietnam for the metropolitan transport sector, especially concerning training for mechanical personnel and the creation of a master plan for the city of Hanoi.
The extension of the Vietnamese railway network is 2,652 kilometres, much of which consists of narrow gauge train tracks. The main line is the north-south axis from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh (1,700 km long). The government is expected to increase investment in the railway sector (from an actual 2% up to around 18%), in particular, aimed at upgrading the network, an organizational restructuring, improving regional connections (especially with China and ASEAN area - Association of South-East Asian Nations) and to enhance connectivity between cities and ports.
