FS Italiane Group as speaker at the 26th edition of the CII Partnership Summit

21st December 2020

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), in collaboration with the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry, organised the 26th edition of the Partnership Summit, the flagship annual event of the CII held in digital mode from 15 to 18 December 2020.

The event was chaired by Piyush Goyal, Minister of Railways and Trade and Industry and by Uday Kotak, President of the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII).

Founded in 1895, the CII Association then evolved as an organisation closely aligned with the economic-industrial development strategies defined by the Indian Government. With over 9,000 members from all over the country (multinational, large, small- and medium-sized enterprises, and the public sector), the CII counts about 300,000 companies operating in each production sector.

The 2020 Partnership Summit, whose key theme was Partnerships for Lives, Livelihood and Growth, aimed at collating the opinions and predictions of influential personalities on the expected geopolitical and strategic developments, on the trend of international trade and the economy, on the evolution of technologies, on socio-cultural aspects and on sustainability.

Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane took part as a speaker in the panel held on 17 December, dedicated to sustainability (Session on Sustainability and New Business Models), defined as one of the priority objectives of the Indian Government.

In particular, after presenting a brief comparative analysis on the eco-sustainability of the various modes of transport in both the passenger and freight divisions, FS representatives offered a practical example comparing energy absorption and pollution in freight transport between the capital of New Delhi and Mumbai (about 1,400 kilometres).

FS Italiane’s concrete commitment to sustainability was highlighted, as one of the key elements of the Group’s development strategy. Given by way of example was the Frecciarossa1000, characterised by the Environmental Impact Certification ‐ EPD (Environmental Product Declaration), which indicates the environmental performance during the entire life cycle (Life Cycle Assessment) according to the standards of the ISO 14040 series (ISO 14.025) and the nearly 100%-recyclable materials used for construction. Thanks to such characteristics, it was possible to finance the purchase of the FrecciaRossa1000 through the issuance of Green Bonds.

Finally recalled was the commitment and contribution of the Group to infrastructural development and, in general, transport for the Indian subcontinent.

The speech generated considerable interest and a fair number of in-depth questions on the topics covered.
