Blue Jet, the new company controlled by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (FS Italiane Group), has been operative since 1 May, established to strengthen the Strait crossing system whilst guaranteeing naval connections for passengers travelling between Messina, Villa San Giovanni and Reggio Calabria.
It was Tindari Jet, having departed on 1 May at 6:20 am from the port of Messina heading to Villa San Giovanni, to complete Blu Jet's first trip and to sanction the handover from Bluferries, the other company in the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group operating in the maritime transport sector and - until recently - holder of the passenger service.
In addition to Blu Jet for passengers, the new Strait-crossing structure now includes the RFI ships for long-distance trains and two-way Bluferries for automobiles and heavy vehicles.
