New order for Italferr in India.
The engineering company of the FS Italiane Group has been awarded, in joint venture with Lombardi SA, a contract for the planning and management of the construction of the "Himalayan Tunnel", the first 12 km stretch (almost entirely in tunnel) of the Rishikesh - Karnaprayag railway line, in the State of Uttarakhand.
The activities include nine months of executive planning and 60 months of works management.
The economic value of the contract is more than 5 million euros.
The entire line (total length 125 km) runs parallel to the river bed of the Ganges at the foot of the Himalayan mountain system, and is characterised by a demand for religious tourism transport.
"With this contract, Italferr and the FS Italiane Group are consolidating their activities in India for the realisation of strategic works, in line with the commitments contained in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Railways signed in 2017", emphasised Aldo Isi, Italferr's Chief Executive Officer and General Manager. "In India we already have a branch in New Delhi, and we have been working on important assignments for several years, including the design and supervision of the construction of the Anji Khad Bridge, the first cable-stayed bridge for the Indian Railways, and assistance, as General Consultant, for the development of two new Mumbai metro lines".
