At the invitation of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, FS Italiane took part in the working breakfast, held at the Milan offices of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, with Onyx Lorenzoni, Brazilian Minister of the Casa Civil (Infrastructure).
With attendance deliberately limited, present at the meeting were Giovanni Rocca as Senior Vice-President of FS Italiane's International Business Promotion along with representatives of Enel, Saipem, Leonardo, Ghella, Salini Impregilo, Gavio, Trevi, Valvitalia and Fagioli.
Minister Lorenzoni, who also oversees the Investment Partnership Programme (PPI) of the Presidency of the Republic of Brazil, presented the priority programmes of the new Brazilian Government.
As part of the operation dedicated to railway infrastructure, the Minister focused attention on the project called “Ferrogrão”, concerning the development of a 933-kilometre railway line. This will be dedicated to the freight transport (grain products) between Sinop, in the State of Mato Grosso, and the river port of Miritituba, on one of the tributaries of the Amazon in the State of Parà. The Project is expected to receive approval from the Brazilian Court of Accounts by February 2020.
In addition, the Minister posited firmly amongst the priorities the creation of a “bioceanic corridor” that will connect the Pacific Ocean with the Atlantic Ocean, from Peru to Brazil, crossing the Amazon.
FS Italiane confirmed its strong interest in the Brazilian infrastructure projects, to which the competences of FS International (Operations & Maintenance and Integrated Mobility) and Italferr (Engineering) could make a significant contribution.
