Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Paolo Gentiloni received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Congo, Jean-Claude Gakosso, today at Farnesina.
The focus of the talks was the countries’ bilateral relations.
Italy is a historical partner of Congo Brazzaville. Following an entrepreneurial mission led by Prime Minister Renzi in July 2014, the economic and trade relations between the two countries recorded a strong acceleration, especially in the agricultural, building, transportation and infrastructure sectors.
Before concluding the meeting, Minister Gentiloni presented Minister Gakosso with two studies concerning the review of Congo’s National Transport Plan and the development of that country’s river and port infrastructure.
The studies were developed by Italferr (FS Italiane Group) and Italian Alliance for Ports-IA4P (a group of Italian enterprises coordinated by Finmeccanica) respectively.
Both documents were financed by the Ministry of Economic Development following a request put forward by Congolese authorities on the occasion of the mission led by Deputy Minister Calenda in January 2015.
