Rome, 1 July 2022
Generating buzz in the name of fun and discovery. This is the intention of July’s La Freccia, which opens to the summer and speaks to the younger readers with a cover dedicated to Sangiovanni, a singer adored by teens and the ideal soundtrack for the summer season to follow on a tour that will cross Italy from 7 July to 4 September.
As always, there is no shortage of travel proposals. On a historic train from Palermo to Salerno, accompanied by the wind instruments of the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale of Santa Cecilia, of which FS is a founding member, from Messina to Lake Garda, passing through Amalfi and Sorrento, following the scent of lemons, trekking around Le Marche's side of the Monti Sibillini to discover lands altered by earthquakes, with a stop in Pesaro for the UlisseFest organised by Lonely Planet.
But also in Sardinia’s Olbia, to learn about an inclusive beach resort that offers group experiences and sports activities for people with disabilities.
We move on to a panorama of events under the stars that, from Veneto to Sicily, enliven the cities with theatre, dance, opera and poetry. Not to be missed is the Montepulciano International Festival, from 16 to 31 July, and the Chigiana International Festival & Summer Academy that brings classical music and jazz to Siena and surrounds until 2 September.
And then there is the great art. In Venice are the abstract forms and powerful colours of Afro Basaldella and the exhibition of underwater photography, The Living Sea. In Rome are shots by French maestro Robert Doisneau. In Naples, delight in the world premiere of Salvador Dalí’s work created for the Alfred Hitchcock film, Spellbound.
Finally, there is always the great desire to talk – from Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc to actress Maria Grazia Cucinotta, from singer-songwriter Riccardo Cocciante to comedian Maccio Capatonda through to founder of the Diesel brand Renzo Rosso and gelato chef Massimiliano Scotti.
The July Freccia can be browsed and read in digital format, on FSnews, and on paper on Trenitalia’s Frecce, in the FRECCIALounge and FRECCIAClub, each copy cellophaned and personal, for readers to pick up and take away.
