A Father Christmas counterpart who seeks to receive presents instead of giving them ... then donates the gifts to less fortunate children.
That is what will be happening again this year – for the sixth Christmas – at Foligno station on Sunday, 18 December. Having parked his sleigh and reindeer, the friendly Santa will arrive on a charming steam-puffing locomotive in all its imposing glory.
The charity initiative is called “Father Christmas ... by train for solidarity”, conceived by the Caritas Diocesana of Foligno for which various companies of the Italian FS Group – Trenitalia Regional, RFI and the FS Foundation – Dopolavoro and Railway Police of Foligno traditionally ensure their organisational contribution.
So, everyone is waiting for him, this Father Christmas ... in reverse, set to arrive on Sunday, 18 December on Platform 1 of the Foligno station at around 3:00 pm and, above all, everyone is ready to shower him with gifts so that he can in turn offer a moment of joy to children in need.
The event is intended to be an occasion of reflection to educate the younger generations about spontaneous giving towards the less fortunate, a necessary requirement for the creation of a society that makes sharing and unconditional generosity the hallmark of its existence.
