Mercitalia Shunting & Terminal and Dinazzano Po are awarded the shunting service in the Port of Ravenna area. This comes as a reconfirmation of the temporary grouping of companies that already managed the service prior to the expiry of the assignment, concluding with a new tender called on 3 February 2022.
The total estimated value of the service in concession is approximately 38 million euro over a five-year duration. The service of the FS Italiane Group’s Logistics Hub, through Mercitalia Shunting & Terminal, employs 42 duly-trained and qualified workers, flanked by coordination staff and instructors, along with a fleet of 8 locomotives, with a volume equal to 7,600 traction units handled in 2021.
The award of this Concession represents the consolidation of a relationship of cooperation with the Port System Authority of the Central North Adriatic Sea and confirms the presence of the FS Group in a railway junction of crucial importance at a national level. Ship-rail-road modal integration in this junction is now highly developed for import-export traffic that is to be relaunched by land and along European corridors for long-distance journeys.
The Business Plan of the FS Group’s Logistics Hub envisages the expansion of existing logistics terminals in order to increase their capacity along with the construction of new technologically-advanced and environmentally-friendly intermodal terminals to up freight volumes, also in intermodal transport. The aim is to double the share of freight currently travelling by rail, which currently sits below the European average.
