The FS Italiane Group Hub dedicated to the development of tourism in Italy is born.
In line with the 2019-2023 Industrial Plan, which envisages intercepting twenty million more tourists, starting from the current 100 million, the FS Italiane Group has launched a series of actions for the redistribution of tourist flows and for better accessibility to the cities of art and holiday spots, enhancing the country's image and the cultural and landscape heritage, also in view of the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics.
The Tourism Development Hub was presented in Rome today by Gian Marco Centinaio Minister of Agricultural, Food, Forestry and Tourism Policies, Danilo Toninelli Minister of Infrastructures and Transport, Gianfranco Battisti CEO and Director General of the FS Italiane Group and Renzo Iorio CEO of Nugo.
In 2030, the number of people travelling the world will increase to 2 billion compared to over 1.4 billion today. Most of these tourists will choose Italy with a growth in flows expected especially from Asia. Our country is the fifth in the world for number of tourists with about 60 million international arrivals in 2018 and a forecast of about 75 million trips from abroad in 2023. On a national level, tourist consumption is equal to over 112 billion euro, of which about 13 billion linked to transport services (11% of domestic tourism consumption). Furthermore, 30% of people travelling on FS Italiane do so for tourism and leisure, with a 20% increase in international customers in 2019 compared to 2018.
To respond to this growing demand for tourism and to people's renewed travel needs (shorter stays throughout the year) and trip planning (increasingly organized autonomously and with digital tools), the FS Italiane Group steps forward as a point of reference for the national tourism ecosystem. It is a player capable of facilitating connections between the country’s three ports of access (airports, railway stations, ports) and of supporting economic growth of the Italian economic system.
The Tourism Development Hub involves the companies of the FS Italiane Group engaged in transport services for people and in the management and development of infrastructures and real estate assets. Eight actions are envisaged: commercial offer, intermodality, historical trains, soft tourism, experiential tourism, culture and music, real estate assets and digital infrastructure. Actions dedicated to Italian and foreign tourists who, thanks to a multimodal offering, will have a system of tailor-made, integrated, digital and sustainable products and services at their disposal, allowing them to reach the seaside, mountain and cities of art locations in Italy, the Beautiful Country.
