Gianluigi Castelli has been re-elected Chairman of UIC

Gianluigi Castelli, Chairman of Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane, has been re-elected Chairman of the Union Internationale des Chemins de fer (UIC), the world association of all the companies of the railway sector.

The General Assembly that met today in Paris unanimously requested Gianluigi Castelli’s availability to chair the UIC for the biennium 2019-2020. Request that he has accepted.

“We will be committed to digitize the railway sector world-wide and it will be a paradigm shift”, said Gianluigi Castelli. “The digital transformation will be crucial to improve the efficiency of all the sectors of the railway industry: from people mobilty, freight transport to automation and robotics. We will also be working to further standardize the processes of the railway industry and in the research and development of cutting-edge railway solutions,” Castelli continued. “During my mandate, the UIC will also strenghten its presence in all the world regions to promote the sustainable development of railway transport. It’s an honor to be re-elected as Chairman of the UIC and to continue to work for Italian and international railways,” Castelli concluded.

The UIC will support the digitalization of the railway sector through a digital platform, available to all the members of the organization, in which state-the-art technological research will be shared to promote overall competitiveness. The UIC is also committed to promote the construction of international freight corridors (One Belt One Road), connecting the East to the West, with interoperable technological solutions and standards.

The UIC is the international organization of the railway sector that brings together over 200 companies, from 100 countries, operating in all five continents. The UIC's mission is to promote worldwide rail transport to meet the challenges of mobility and sustainable development.
