Paris, 01 December 2015
Renato Mazzoncini, the new CEO of the Gruppo Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane (Italian State Railways Group), was elected vice-president of the International Union of Railways (UIC).
The election was held today in Paris, during the meeting of the UIC General Assembly. His mandate will last for one year.
Mazzoncini was also appointed as a member of the European Management Committee of the UIC Europe.
The UIC vice-presidency UIC, assigned for the fifth consecutive time to an Italian FS CEO, serves as recognition for the Group's efforts in their field, on both the European and international level, and for their ability to represent the best interests of the railway sector itself.
The UIC is the international organization of the railway sector that brings together 240 companies from five continents. Its objective is to promote railway transport on a global level, also through partnerships and synergies, in order to meet the challenges of mobility and sustainable development.
The UIC supports interoperability, favours the sharing of best practices and outlines proposals to improve the technical and environmental performance of railway transport.
