IV Railway package: liberalisation with reciprocal regulations between countries goes forward

Milan, 26th October 2015

The Italian Railway Group considers the IV Railway Package to be a very important step forward towards the liberalisation in Europe of market services and hopes that opening towards competition, in a regulation reciprocity context, will be as fast as possible.

Michele Mario Elia, the Italian Railway Group CEO, was present at Expo to illustrate the position of the Group.
The Transport and Infrastructure Minister Graziano Delrio, and the European Commissioner for Transport Violeta Bulc, took part in the meeting with journalists during the International Workshop on the IV Railway Package organised at Expo by Italian Railways and CER (Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies)

The International workshop on the IV Railway Package is a first informal meeting between Parliament and the European Committee to discuss the reform themes while waiting for a definitive law.

At the centre of the Workshop is the revision of Directive 34/2012 on governance and liberalisation, the revision of Regulation 1370/2007 on the public railway services, the technical mainstay of the new Directives on Interoperability and Safety, and the revision of the European Railway Agency (ERA).

They are all extremely important regulations for the single European rail transport market, both in the short and the long run. As such, they must be defined in order to offer better and innovative services, obtain efficient use of public resources and also attract private investment.
