Rome, 19 March 2018
Tomorrow, March 20, begins the 13th edition of the Action Week against Racism, a traditional meeting of UNAR (National Anti-Discrimination Office), aimed at raising public awareness regarding all forms of discrimination.
The campaign, promoted by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers' Department for Equal Opportunities, is also supported by FS Italiane, which has a firm focus in its corporate policies regarding global solidarity and civil commitment.
The initiative starts every year on the occasion of the worldwide celebration of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, set for 21 March by the General Assembly of the United Nations. The date marks the anniversary of the 1960 massacre by South African police of 69 protesters in Sharpeville who were peacefully protesting racist laws enacted by the apartheid regime.
Among the initiative's objectives is the promotion of the national free number 800 901010 which allows people to report direct or indirect discrimination or harassment concerning various factors of disparity, such as age, religion, race and ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
