Starting on Monday 22 October at 9:50 p.m. on the Sky History channel, the documentary “L’Italia del treno” will be aired in five episodes, telling through unedited film footage the story of the arrival of railways in this country. Bringing economic, social and technological progress, the train represents the first real instance of the State being central to crucial events and really making its mark on the history of Italy and the Italian people.
Beppe Severgnini and Raffaele Di Placido retrace the progress of the “iron monster” from 3 October 1839, when a train ran for the first time along the coast of the Gulf of Naples. From a symbol of power during the two decades of Fascism to much more than a means of transport in the economic boom of the 60s, the train will be the protagonist, allowing viewers to relive, from the passenger carriage, the history of Italy as never told before.
