FS Group: 57% drop in attacks on Trenitalia staff in the first quarter

  • FS Security’s action plan brings home positive results
  • Focus on preventing and tackling train and station assault

Rome, 24 April 2026

Assaults on Trenitalia (FS Group) staff dropped by 57% in the first quarter of 2026. This is due to the measures implemented by FS Security, such as station patrols and on-board safety services across the entire national rail network. In this first quarter, vandalism also decreased, by improving prevention and enforcement indicators.

Less assaults and vandalism

The data highlights significant achievements in terms of staff and company assets protection. Indeed, attacks on Trenitalia staff dropped by 57% compared with the same period in 2025, and went from 68 to 29 incidents. Infrastructure (-65%) and train vandalism (-29%) also decreased, and so did graffiti on carriages (-11%).

Against fraud to protect travellers

A significant finding has emerged in the fight against fraud, with its impact on monitored turnover proving to be virtually negligible, in the first few months of the year. Thefts on board trains remained largely stable (-1%), whilst the presence of unauthorised travellers along the line fell by 3%, contributing to smoother train services.

Increased operational activities

The improved indicators are the result of FS Security stepping up its presence on the ground. In the first quarter of 2026, over 10 million passengers were checked, up 54.6% compared to last year. There is also more staff deployed in stations (+22.3%) and more operational activities (+24.6%). Train monitoring has also been strengthened (+26.5%), confirming an increasingly widespread and effective presence across the nation.

These results point to FS Group’s effective integrated security model, based on comprehensive territorial coverage, technological innovation and ongoing collaboration with the police, to ensure a safer and more reliable travel experience to all citizens.
