The new Casalnuovo station, on the Naples–Cancello section of the High-Speed/High-Capacity Naples-Bari line, is now open to the public.
Built entirely in a tunnel by Consorzio Nacav, led by Webuild, on behalf of Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (FS Group), the new station replaces the former Casalnuovo stop. This strategic hub for the entire region is part of the Naples-Cancello section, whose total value reaches 1.1 billion euros.
In total, 63 Trenitalia Regionale trains, running along the Napoli-Caserta (through Cancello), Napoli-Vairano-Cassino and Napoli Campi Flegrei-Caserta-Capua, with a total capacity of over 49,000 seats, will stop at the Casalnuovo station on weekdays. And 26 trains on public holidays, for a total of around 19,000 seats.
After Napoli Afragola and Acerra, Casalnuovo is now the third station to open along the variant Cancello route, the new section of the Naples–Bari line that opened to rail traffic on 1 July. What’s more, the Napoli Afragola station established a direct connection between the regional line, the national High-Speed line, and the new High-Speed/High-Capacity Naples-Bari route, bringing immediate benefits for passengers travelling to Caserta and along the main Campania destinations.
Following the completion of the Naples–Cancello section, the total length of new HS/HC line along the Naples–Bari route has now reached 55 kilometres, with several pluses in terms of increased capacity, reduced journey times and improved service regularity, also thanks to the decommissioning of the old Naples-Cancello line and the simultaneous removal of 12 level crossings along the route.
