Not all journeys are measured in kilometres. Some are measured in emotions, in glances, in places that seem suspended in time. Some journeys have no destination: they have an atmosphere.
This is where Time Machine, the new commercial by FS Group and Fondazione FS Italiane, begins: a journey through vintage carriages and historic trains, retracing the evolution of rail travel and the journeys made by Italians over the years.
It all begins in the Royal Hall of Milan Central Station. A young woman walks through the hall, boards a historic train and finds herself, as if in a dream, immersed in different eras. Carriage by carriage, time moves on and the atmosphere changes. A seamless transition from one era to another, set to the notes of “Felicità” by Lucio Dalla, inviting viewers to experience a journey beyond time.
A real journey through time, immersed in the atmosphere of Italy’s railway heritage.
Time Machine is a story that invites us to rediscover the deep connection between Italy’s landscape and its history, travelling through cities, dreams and inspiration. Because every train, before becoming a means of transport, was part of the lives of Italians: departures, homecomings, encounters and new beginnings.
Behind Time Machine is director Volfango De Biasi, who guided the FS Group and Fondazione FS Italiane film on a continuous journey through different eras, transforming vintage carriages and historic trains into gateways to the past. Serena De Ferrari takes viewers on the journey: her gaze leads them from one carriage to the next, from one atmosphere to another, allowing them to feel the passage of time. The project was produced by Buddy Film, bringing to life a story in which Italy’s railway heritage becomes an immersive experience, wrapped in a dreamlike atmosphere.
The film made its screen debut at the 21st edition of the Rome Film Festival.
