Gianpiero Strisciuglio appointed the UIC new Vice-President

Confirmed as President of the European Region

Rome, 3 August 2026

Gianpiero Strisciuglio, FS Group’s Chief Executive Officer and General Manager, is the new Vice-President of UIC (Union internationale des chemins de fer) – an international organisation that brings together railway operators and the main stakeholders in the global rail sector.

Moreover, Strisciuglio has been confirmed as President of the UIC’s European Region for a two-year term. In this role, he will lead UIC Europe’s efforts in the key strategic areas of the regional work programme, focusing especially on the immediate priorities for the coming period: FRMCS, the future European mobile communication system for the railway sector. Railway Ontologies, which promotes interoperability and structured data sharing between railway operators and systems. And Capacity and Operational Performance on the network.

“I am deeply proud – emphasised Gianpiero Strisciuglio, FS Italiane Group’s CEO and Managing Director – of being appointed Vice-President of the UIC and of being re-appointed as President of the Europe Region for the 2026–2027 term. Both roles are especially significant to me, since I began my professional career in the railway sector and progressed within FS Group. I believe the expansion of high-speed rail links and the development of an increasingly integrated, interoperable and sustainable network to be an extraordinary opportunity for bringing people and economies closer together. In this process, we need to boost collaboration between European railway companies by sharing expertise, innovation and a strategic vision.”

In his dual role, FS Group’s Chief Executive Officer and General Manager will work closely with the other members of the UIC to promote a more competitive, safe and sustainable rail transport at regional and global level.
