Claudio Maria Oriolo graduated in Law from “La Sapienza” University of Rome, with a dissertation on civil law, and then obtained a licence to practice law.

He then went on to specialise in Economics and Transport Systems Management, completing a Master’s degree at the “Tor Vergata” University of Rome.

He joined Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group in 2002, working in the Executive Office of Rete Ferroviaria Italiana S.p.A. He continued his career in the Commercial Department first, and then in the Legal and Corporate Affairs Department, where he took over the Regulation and Antitrust Structure. In this role, he actively contributed to the definition of the regulatory framework and the operational rules underlying rail transport liberalisation, in a market governed by constantly evolving national and European regulations.

In August 2021, he was appointed Director of the Legal, Corporate and Compliance Department at Rete Ferroviaria Italiana. In this role, he developed and implemented a business-oriented legal model for managing the Legal Structure, concerning the wide-spreading Department activities (advisory services, complex contract negotiation, and litigation management across various legal regulations). Moreover, he supported Top Management in their crucial decisions and in preventing and mitigating the Company’s legal and reputational risks.

Since September 2026, he has been Chief Legal Officer for Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane S.p.A.
