In particular, at European level, numerous FS Group companies are active in:
- European High-Speed Rail, through its subsidiaries Trenitalia France in France and ILSA in Spain (in partnership with Air Nostrum and Globalvia). In this context, the FS Group and Certares have recently launched a strategic partnership for the development of international High-speed rail, which envisages the creation of a joint venture and includes an investment in Trenitalia France aimed at accelerating its growth and strengthening its presence in France, the United Kingdom and cross-border markets;
- Regulated Rail, through the subsidiaries Netinera Deutschland in Germany and Hellenic Train in Greece;
- Advisory, through the subsidiary FS Advisory, in partnership with First Group, operating under the Avanti West Coast brand - in the United Kingdom;
- Urban Mobility, through its subsidiary Qbuzz in the Netherlands.
In 2011, Trenitalia France (formerly Thello) became the first alternative railway operator for passenger transport in France, guaranteeing connections with Italy.
Since December 2021, the FS International subsidiary offers daily round‑trip services between Paris and Milan (via Lyon, Chambéry, Modane and Turin), as well as between Paris and Lyon and Paris and Marseille, operated with its Frecciarossa high‑speed trains.
FS Advisory, fully controlled by FS International, is specialized in consulting services in the transport and infrastructure sectors, providing advisory support to governments, institutional investors, operators, infrastructure developers and construction and engineering companies involved in complex mobility projects worldwide.
The company provides consulting services in transport sector reorganization processes delivering advanced digital mobility solutions - including ticketing platforms and performance monitoring systems that are already widely adopted across Europe - as well as specialized expertise covering the entire transport and infrastructure value chain.
FS Advisory also offers Shadow and Interim Management services designed to support governance transitions, nationalization processes, and operational transformations assisting public and private clients in optimizing their transport assets at an international level, to address the challenges of digitalization, sustainability, and multimodal connectivity through an integrated approach that combines a deep understanding of public service obligations with the sector’s operational and commercial dynamics.
In partnership with First Group, through Avanti West Coast brand, it operates in the United Kingdom managing passenger services along the West Coast Main Line and is also involved in the development and future commissioning of the High Speed 2 project to connect London with the Midlands and the north of England, reducing trip times and increasing network capacity.
The FS Group operates in Germany through two subsidiaries: Netinera Deutschland and TX Logistik.
Acquired by the FS Group in 2011 and fully controlled by FS International, Netinera Deutschland is today the third largest private operator in Germany and offers rail and road services in 11 federal states and the three city states of Berlin, Bremen and Hamburg, through a structured network of subsidiaries and affiliated companies.
The Company operates under 18 nationally and regionally recognized brands, including ODEG, vlexx, trilex, alex and erixx, ensuring broad territorial coverage and strong specialization in regional mobility services. In addition, it manages cross‑border rail connections to Poland, the Czech Republic and France, and provides services dedicated to the transport of passengers with reduced mobility, as well as rolling stock maintenance services for other operators.
TX Logistik is one of the largest German freight railway companies and is controlled by FS Logistix, the FS Group's freight transport company. In addition to Germany, TX Logistik operates within several European countries.
Acquired by FS Group in 2017 following the privatization process launched by the Greek government, Hellenic Train is today the operator of suburban passenger rail services in Greece controlled by FS International. The company also manages the majority of the country’s rail freight transport.
Hellenic Train operates daily services along the Athens–Thessaloniki corridor and offers a wide range of suburban services in Athens, Thessaloniki and Patras.
In 2019, the company completed the acquisition of EESSTY, the Greek state-owned company responsible for rolling stock maintenance, thereby achieving full vertical integration of its rail operations.
Qbuzz, acquired by FS Group in 2017 and fully controlled by FS International, is the third largest local public transport operator in the Netherlands and manages bus and metropolitan rail services in the areas of Utrecht, Groningen‑Drenthe, Drechtsteden Molenlanden Gorinchem, Zuid‑Holland Noord and Friesland.
The company represents a model of sustainable mobility, thanks to its advanced fleet of electric and hydrogen buses, and is recognized as one of the most dynamic operators in the field of digitalization, as well as a pioneer in the development of innovative depots and autonomous driving solutions.
In Romania, FS Logistix is present through the Rom-Rail freight forwarding company.
Part of the FS Group through FS International (majority shareholder), ILSA is the first private operator to enter the Spanish high‑speed rail market since 2022 under the Iryo brand with a fleet of new Frecciarossa trains, covering the most important Spanish high-speed corridors, including Madrid–Barcelona, Madrid–Valencia, Madrid–Alicante, and Madrid–Malaga/Seville.
To support intermodality, the company has also launched a multimodal platform (Iryo-Conecta) that allows users to book hundreds of different itineraries by combining rail services, buses, flights, and ferries, thereby facilitating travel to multiple destinations in Spain and abroad.
