Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (the lead company of the Infrastructure Business Unit of the FS Italiane Group) published in the Official Journal of the European Union the tender for the executive design and construction of the Torino Porta Susa-Torino Porta Nuova direct line.
The tender is worth around 68 million euro, also financed with funds from the PNRR (Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan).
The project will render it possible to up the railway flow and the possibility of adding new Metropolitan Railway Service line provisions by separating the Turin-Milan route from that of Turin-Modane. The civil works have already been constructed for the most part and will eliminate the current interference between suburban connections and freight bound for Orbassano/Modane, with long-distance Turin-Milan connections and regional Turin-Milan/Aosta traffic.
The works consist in the extension of the artificial tunnel in the Largo Turati area by about 120 metres and the entrance into the station of Torino Porta Nuova in line with the current Squadra Rialzo, as well as all railway equipment for the entire section of the line with the necessary modifications in the installations of Torino Porta Susa and Torino Porta Nuova.
