Cagliari, 26 October 2020
Tomorrow at 9.44 am on the Cagliari-Carbonia route, the first of the four new Swing trains that disembarked in Golfo Aranci port on October 7 will enter into circulation. This marks the beginning of the renovation of the regional fleet, which will continue with the arrival of another six trainsets for a total of ten new trains, the result of the Service Contract signed by Trenitalia (FS Italiane Group) and the Region of Sardinia.
The Lines – After the usual staff training period, the new convoys will start operating during the week and will be deployed on the busiest lines in Sardinia, including Cagliari - Oristano, Cagliari - San Gavino and Cagliari - Iglesias/Carbonia.
Comfort and safety – Able to reach a speed of 130km/h, the Swing is a diesel train by Trenitalia that can travel on non-electrified lines, offering excellent performance in terms of comfort, safety and reliability. In addition, six internal and four external cameras are installed to ensure 360 degree video surveillance, as well as monitors and audio equipment for better communication with passengers.
The Supply – The arrival of the 10 Swing trains is part of the 2017-2025 Service Contract stipulated between Trenitalia and the Region of Sardinia, involving the arrival of 12 next-generation trains over the next few years.
