Rome, 22nd April 2016
The CEO of Italian State Railways (FS), Renato Mazzoncini, met yesterday with a Saudi Arabian Railways (SAR) delegation, composed of Chairman Saad Al Gadhi and Deputy Chairman of Infrastructure Gassim Al Gassim.
The representatives of Saudi Railways visited Roma Termini, one of Europe’s largest stations, in order to acquaint themselves with both its technological element, linked to rail traffic control, and its commercial aspect. The delegation then departed for Naples, accompanied by FS managers, aboard the Frecciarossa 1000, the jewel in the crown of Italian rail technology, for a visit to the high-speed train maintenance facility.
In 2014, Italian State Railways (FS) took part in a tender for management and maintenance of Saudi rail transport and infrastructure. Today, the FS Group is operating in Saudi Arabia through its engineering firm, Italferr, in the planning of the new railway line which will connect the Port of Jeddah, on the Red Sea, with Al Jubail, on the Arabian Sea. The contract is worth approximately 59 million euros.
