The project involves the construction of a direct link (beltway) between the Val Pusteria and Brenner railway line. There are also plans to construct two new stops in Varna and Naz-Sciaves, as well as a new, more functional track layout for the Bressanone station. The intervention has the benefit of avoiding trains coming from the Pustertal valley at the Fortezza station having to aboutface and allowing a direct connection between Pusteria, Bressanone and Bolzano. Thus, it will be possible to increase the rail transport offering whilst achieving a significant reduction in journey times and offering multiple connection possibilities between various transport solutions.

Paola Firmi was appointed Extraordinary Governmental Commissioner for completion of the works.

Advantages

  • The project will reduce travel time from Val Pustertal to/from Brixen and Bozen by just under 15 minutes.
