Rome, 14 March, 2024 - Today FS Group and Poste Italiane signed two separate agreements, a Memorandum of Understanding concerning passenger transport and a Letter of Intent concerning freight transport, with the aim of developing sustainable, innovative and digital solutions to simplify people's travel experiences and enhance intermodality in logistics.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Luigi Ferraris, CEO of FS Italiane Group, Matteo Del Fante, CEO of Poste Italiane, Luigi Corradi, CEO of Trenitalia and Marco Siracusano, CEO of PostePay. The agreement aims to foster the development of joint solutions in the area of electronic payments to make the procedure of purchasing tickets from physical and online channels even simpler and more immediate.
"With the agreements signed today, we aim to simplify the ticket payment methods for our means of transport - states the CEO of FS Italiane Group Luigi Ferraris - and to improve the digitalisation of freight transport with a view to perfecting the multimodal rail-road offer in Europe, providing innovative and sustainable solutions capable of integrating rail services with first- and last-mile road services.”

The Letter of Intent (LoI) was signed by Luigi Ferraris, CEO of FS Italiane Group, Matteo Del Fante, CEO of Poste Italiane, Sabrina De Filippis, CEO of Mercitalia Logistics and David Nothacker, CEO of sennder in order to develop a sustainable and digitised logistics network. In particular, Mercitalia Logistics, leader of the FS Group Logistics Cluster, and sennder, a German company active in the digitisation of road freight transport and partner of Poste Italiane, will work together to expand the logistics network of intermodal freight transport in Europe.
The partnership aims to improve the competitive offer of both companies by providing intermodal, innovative and sustainable logistics solutions in Europe, bringing together the rail services of the Logistics Cluster with the first- and last-mile road services of sennder's green vehicles.
