Genoa, 23 June 2023
Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane supports The Ocean Race, the evocative round-the-world sailing event that has chosen the city of Genoa for its first port of call in Italy. Indeed, the Ligurian capital will host the race in the name of sport, sustainability, innovation and gender diversity from 24 June to 2 July, also promoted by the FS Group as a supporter.
The Genoa event focuses on care and respect for the sea as an important Italian heritage, whilst simultaneously calling for healthy and conscious tourism capable of enhancing the country’s natural beauty even more. It will also be an opportunity to host a calendar rich in events and activities to accompany tourists, citizens and nautical enthusiasts wanting to attend concerts, try their hand at other types of sport and enjoy experiences connected to the world of innovation and care for the environment.
It is from these premises that FS Italiane’s support for The Ocean Race starts, as an important occasion seeing the typical fun of the summer combine with occasions to reflection on how the connection between human beings and nature must pass through the ways of life able to protect the planet. These are values that have always characterised Ferrovie dello Stato’s daily commitment towards collective, multimodal and thus sustainable mobility.
As proof of this commitment, a Trenitalia Intercity train bearing an image from The Ocean Race shall run from 26 June on the Milan-Genoa-Ventimiglia, Milan-Genoa-Livorno and Milan-Bari-Lecce routes.
Also in the name of green transport, visitors will be able to contribute to making the event sustainable, starting with opting to travel by train as the preferred mode of transport for their journey. From the Genova Brignole railway station, it is actually possible to reach the Ocean Live Park – organised in the area of the Levante Water Front – on foot, by bike sharing, by taking Line 31 of the urban transport service or the dedicated shuttle of Line 10. There where the sea has reconquered spaces thanks to the vision of architect Renzo Piano, arises a village rich in activities and experiences including sailing, sport, art, innovation, sustainability, shows and entertainment.
Alternatively, from the Genova Piazza Principe station, head to the Porto Antico event area on foot, by metro, bike sharing or urban transport (Lines 35, 1, 18 or 3). A mobility system has even been organised to encourage the use of public and collective transport – be it by train, bus or taxi – to reach the Ocean Live Park with free shuttles from the Brignole station and from Porto Antico every 10 to 15 minutes.
