Palermo, 8 May 2023
Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, as lead company of the FS Italiane Group’s Infrastructure Hub, awarded Manelli Impresa the tender for construction of the new Lazio stop in Palermo.
The contract, as part of the works for completion of the Palermo Railway Link, is worth approximately 41 million euro.
The stop is part of the larger project for the electrified doubling of the Palermo Centrale/Brancaccio-Punta Raisi section, which represents the main axis connecting Palermo and the adjacent municipalities up to the Falcone Borsellino Airport, along with the province of Trapani.
The new stop will be built underground, at a depth of approximately 26 metres, and will have a total of five levels, of which only one will be above ground, for access to the tracks. It is located within the urban section of the city of Palermo, between Via delle Alpi and Viale Lazio, in one of the nerve centres of the Sicilian capital. This will favour greater utilisation of the railway service for a broad range of users. It will consist of two footpaths, one in the Trapani/Punta Raisi direction and the other in the Palermo Centrale direction, constructed in line with current European metro standards, able to ensure great comfort for passengers along with accessibility for people with disabilities and reduced mobility, thanks to the creation of pathways for people who are vision impaired plus the installation of escalators and lifts.
Construction is scheduled to last approximately 3.5 years from handover of the works and will require an average daily workforce of some 80 labours.
