The first journey of the new Espresso Cadore night train by FS Treni Turistici Italiani, a company belonging to the Passenger Division of the FS Italiane Group, is underway.
The new train route from Roma Termini to Cortina d’Ampezzo, the “Queen of the Dolomites”, offers passengers the opportunity to rediscover the pleasure of slow, sustainable, high-quality tourism and to appreciate the beauty of the Italian landscape from the train, an experience that will become a memorable part of the holiday.
The departure of the maiden voyage was attended by the Minister of Economy and Finance Giancarlo Giorgetti, the Minister of Tourism Daniela Santanchè, the CEO of the FS Italiane Group Luigi Ferraris, the CEO of Trenitalia Luigi Corradi, and the CEO of FS Treni Turistici Italiani Luigi Cantamessa.
The new night service offers travel between Rome and Cortina d’Ampezzo every weekend until 25 February 2024, with some additional journeys planned over the Christmas period. The train departs every Friday from Roma Termini at 21:40, arriving in Calalzo (Belluno) at 07:57. From here, a bus service will take passengers to the centre of Cortina d’Ampezzo in 50 minutes. The return train will leave on Sunday from the Calalzo - Pieve di Cadore - Cortina station at 21:00, arriving at Roma Termini at 06:40. Intermediate stops at Orte, Orvieto, Treviso, Ponte nelle Alpi and Longarone - Zoldo are planned on the outward and return journeys.
Access on board will be permitted up to 40 minutes before departure. On advance reservation, passengers will be able to access the bar/restaurant carriage for dinner and will be able to entrust their luggage or any sports equipment to the on-board personnel, which will be placed in a luggage compartment manned by FS TTI staff. Travellers can book single or double sleeper compartments, including dinner and breakfast, or 4- or 6-bunk couchettes that can also be reserved exclusively for groups. An all-night bar service is available on board.
