Florence, 02 November 2022
A total of some 200,000 visitors arrived and departed with Trenitalia Toscana regional trains to/from Lucca station during the five days of Lucca Comics.
From 28 October to 1 November, in agreement with the Tuscany Region, more than 130 additional trains ran on regional lines to meet the mobility and safety requirements associated with the extraordinary flows of people on the lines of Florence-Prato-Lucca, Pisa-Lucca, Viareggio-Lucca and Lucca-Aulla.
In order to better manage the large number of people, the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group increased the presence of personnel in the Operations Rooms, in the station of Lucca and neighbouring stations, with employees from Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, Trenitalia and Corporate Protection. In addition, was the presence of agents from Tuscany’s Compartimento Polfer (Railway Police Department) and Civil Defence volunteers, active not only in Lucca but also in other sites within the provinces of Lucca and Pistoia to manage passengers heading to the Comics event.
What’s more, during the days of the event, Rete Ferroviaria Italiana reorganised the entrance and exit routes of Lucca station, splitting the outgoing streams for the various destinations. The solution, developed in conjunction with the local authorities, together with the regulation of access, ensured an orderly ebb and flow of those who opted to take the train to the event, contributing to the smooth running of the mobility plan organised by local authorities.
