The project involves the restoration of the direct link between Palermo and Trapani via Milo, which was closed in 2013 due to widespread deterioration that could no longer be remedied through maintenance work.
More specifically, the interventions involve: infrastructure improvements through modifications to the road surface and civil engineering works, adaptation to new technological standards, and the acceleration of traffic flow on diversion routes at major junctions.
Plans also include the electrification of the entire line and the construction of an underpass within the municipality of Trapani, which will enable the removal of three level crossings. The project will enable the Palermo–Trapani connection to be reopened, ensuring improved network performance and faster interconnections.
The Palermo–Trapani line via Milo is fully funded, including through NRRP funds.
