The project involves the phased two-track expansion of the Ponte San Pietro–Bergamo–Montello line.
The Ponte S. Pietro – Bergamo – Montello project has received partial public funding, including through NRRP funds.
Aldo Isi was appointed Extraordinary Government Commissioner for the completion of the works.
The project stretches for approximately 19 km between the Ponte S. Pietro and Montello stations, after Bergamo. The first phase involves the doubling of the line between Ponte San Pietro and Bergamo, and includes modifications to the Ponte San Pietro station and the integration of Bergamo and Ponte San Pietro into the ACC-M.
The second phase involves the doubling of the Bergamo–Montello section with a new ACC in Bergamo, the removal of all level crossings along the line, and the construction of the necessary replacement infrastructure. The works at Bergamo station will be integrated with the project for the new rail link to Orio al Serio Airport.
