Lunghezza-Guidonia doubling

Lunghezza-Guidonia doubling

The project involves the doubling of the track between Lunghezza and Guidonia along the Rome–Pescara line over a distance of approximately 10 km, most of which will be built alongside the existing line.

As part of the works to open the first section of the double-track line between Lunghezza and Bagni di Tivoli, the upgrade of the Bagni di Tivoli station has been completed. The station will subsequently be renamed Tivoli Terme.

The next phase involves relocating the Guidonia Montecelio station to Collefiorito, installing noise barriers and removing level crossings along the route.

With effect from 12 March 2026, the date on which Decree-Law No. 36 (published in the Official Gazette No. 58 of 11 March 2026) came into force, in accordance with Article 5 of that decree, the Chief Executive Officer of RFI SpA has taken over from the previously appointed Extraordinary Commissioners.

The project has received partial public funding, including NRRP funds.

Advantages

  • Improved service regularity and optimised rolling stock management, thanks to the upgrade of station facilities at the new Guidonia site.
  • Improved accessibility thanks to road works, the removal of level crossings and the construction of park-and-ride facilities in Guidonia and Bagni di Tivoli.
