The project is part of a set of interventions across the country to connect a series of airports to the national railway infrastructure with the aim of favouring the accessibility of air transport hubs and rail-to-air intermodality and reducing pollution rates.
The entire project entails:
- the construction of a new link between Brindisi station and Salento Airport, via a specific line branching off from the Bari-Brindisi railway line, approximately 1 km north of Brindisi station;
- the construction of two single-track links to allow direct connections to the airport also in the direction of Bari and Taranto.
In conjunction with the construction of the new link between Brindisi station and the airport area, the new Brindisi Airport dead-end station is planned, which will include no. 2 parking tracks, L250/H55 TSI PRM-standard platforms, and a Public Information system.
The project to build a rail link to Salento Airport has received partial public funding, including through NRRP funds.
