Brescia-Verona-Padua

Brescia-Verona-Padua

The project involves the construction of the new Brescia–Verona–Padua high-speed/high-capacity railway line, which forms part of the Milan–Venice HS/HC link. This line is of strategic importance on both a national and European level, as it forms part of the Mediterranean Corridor of the TEN-T network linking the ports in the south of the Iberian Peninsula to Eastern Europe, and passing through the south of France, northern Italy and Slovenia.

The project will increase the high-speed, regional and freight transport capacity of the Milan–Venice line, ensuring better separation of traffic flows thereby increasing capacity and service reliability, reducing journey times and increasing train frequency, whilst meeting the standards set by the TEN-T network.

“With effect from 12 March 2026, the date on which Decree-Law No. 36 (published in the Official Gazette No. 58 of 11 March 2026) came into force, in accordance with Article 5 of that decree, the Chief Executive Officer of RFI SpA has taken over from the previously appointed Extraordinary Commissioners.”

The project has received partial public funding, including NRRP funds.

Advantages

  • The new Brescia–Verona–Padua high-speed and high-capacity rail line will involve a four-track expansion of the existing infrastructure, enabling further development of high-speed train services and reducing journey times between Milan and Venice Santa Lucia.
  • There will be an increase in the capacity and regularity of traffic, partly as a result of the specialisation of services (i.e. the separation of conventional and high-speed rail services), thereby also enabling an improvement in the regional transport system and an increase in freight traffic;
  • The new infrastructure will ensure improved performance in terms of capacity, reliability, punctuality and speed.
