The project involves the construction of the new Brescia–Verona–Padua high-speed/high-capacity railway line, which forms part of the Milan–Venice HS/HC link. This line is of strategic importance on both a national and European level, as it forms part of the Mediterranean Corridor of the TEN-T network linking the ports in the south of the Iberian Peninsula to Eastern Europe, and passing through the south of France, northern Italy and Slovenia.
The project will increase the high-speed, regional and freight transport capacity of the Milan–Venice line, ensuring better separation of traffic flows thereby increasing capacity and service reliability, reducing journey times and increasing train frequency, whilst meeting the standards set by the TEN-T network.
