Bolzano area regeneration programme, supported by the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, the Municipality of Bolzano and FS Group, provides for a spatial and functional redevelopment of the railway hub, by modifying the existing infrastructure and railway line, with the construction of a new railway station connected to underground park and ride terminals (bus terminal and car park).
The plans for the railway works currently being developed provide for:
- Disposal of the existing railway areas and the assets used for railway operations within the railway area.
- All the station’s operational functions, especially those concerning rail traffic and infrastructure maintenance activities, based on the project model.
- A rolling stock maintenance facility integrated into the new organisational structure.
- Design of the new bridge over the River Isarco, if required.
- A new passenger terminal.
- A new office building, housing RFI’s units located in the buildings that will be demolished to modify the railway site.
- A cycle and pedestrian underpass linking the future bus terminals and the underground car park.
Following the conversion into law of Decree-Law 32, published in the Official Journal 58 of 11 March 2026, Article 5 of that decree provided for the appointment of RFI SpA’s Chief Executive Officer as Extraordinary Commissioner.
The Extraordinary Commissioner, by Order 3 of 15 June 2026, appointed Giuseppe Romeo, Head of RFI SpA’s North-East Investment Department.
