Regionale, a brand of Trenitalia (FS Group), is continuing to modernise its fleet with 31 new trains delivered from the start of 2026 to the present day, representing a total investment of around 370 million euros. By 2027, the number of new-generation trains serving commuters and passengers across Italy will rise to 1,081, representing an investment of seven billion euros.
Thanks to Service Contracts with the Regions and the Autonomous Provinces, commissioners of the service, 674 new-generation trains were delivered to date, which, added to the 335 purchased previously, bring the number of new trains in circulation to 1,009. More specifically, 359 trains were allocated to Central Italy, 369 to Northern Italy, and 281 to Southern Italy and the Islands, thereby strengthening the regional rail transport offer throughout the country.
With further deliveries this year and those planned by 2027, 80% of the entire Regionale fleet will be refurbished.
Trenitalia, with its Regionale service, guarantees capillary mobility throughout the country, with over 6,000 daily connections and more than 400 million passengers transported every year. The offer focuses on sustainability and innovation, also through over 150 Links - intermodal solutions by train+bus, ships and other means of transport - to reach even the most remote destinations with ease, enhancing the efficiency and quality of regional transport along the entire Peninsula.
