Rome-Pescara line

Rome-Pescara line

This project sees significant infrastructural and technological enhancement works along the Rome-Pescara line, split into several phases and aimed at improving mobility between Lazio and Abruzzo. Doubling, speeding up and upgrading will reduce journey times from the current 3 hours and 20 minutes to around just 2 hours.

Vincenzo Macello was appointed Extraordinary Governmental Commissioner for completion of the works.

Advantages

  • Reduced travel time, from Rome to Pescara in about 2 hours compared to the current 3 hours and 20 minutes, with a shorter travel time up to 80 minutes (upon completion of the entire project);
  • Increased capacity – from 4 to 10 trains/hour on the sections being doubled, with the possibility of establishing metropolitan services between Chieti and Pescara;
  • Acceleration and adjustment of the connections between Pescara and L'Aquila, thanks also to other ongoing and scheduled interventions on the L’Aquila-Sulmona line (Bretella Sulmona, a new Sulmona Santa Rufina stop);
  • A performance adjustment to facilitate the development of freight traffic.
