The project involves the construction of a second track, following a different route from the one currently in use, on the section between Andora and Finale Ligure, covering a distance of approximately 32 km, 25 km of which will be in tunnels. This will enable the completion of the doubling of the Genoa – Ventimiglia international line.
The project includes the construction of the new Albenga station and of stops at Alassio (in a tunnel), Borghetto-Ceriale-Loano and Pietra Ligure. With the new infrastructure and the decommissioning of the existing line, 14 level crossings will be removed and the current facilities at Laigueglia, Alassio, Albenga, Ceriale, Borghetto S. Spirito, Pietra Ligure and Borgio Verezzi will be decommissioned.
The project is currently at the design stage, and the full work schedule will only be finalised once full funding for the construction phase has been secured. Funding for the project is currently limited to the design phase only.
